Visakoivukirja on lahja- ja kuvakirjaksi suunniteltu teos, joka vie
katselijan syvälle visakoivun syövereihin. Visakoivu metsässä, tai
esineenä on visuaalisesti voimakas, monipuolisesti ilmenevä ja vahvojakin
tunteita herättävä puu. Historiallisesti se ilmaantuu suomalaisten
näkyville aina kansallisen identiteetin murroskohdissa. Taloudellisesti se

This book is
designed as an illustrated work and gift book taking the reader deep into
the fascinating world of curly birch. Growing in the forest or made into
objects, this material is visually forceful, expressive in many ways and
even evocative of strong emotions. Historically, it has come to the fore
at times of major change for the national identity of the Finns. In
economic terms, it is the most expensive species of timber growing in
Finland. It rewards its grower in many ways, and for the craftsman it is a
challenge for the mind and hand, even to the point of self-restraint. For
the collector it provides interesting examples of national
self-expression, and for the scholar and researcher its origin and
genetics still offer a great deal to study.
The best that curly
birch can do is to spur imagination, and this book seeks to do
