ABOUT THE FISKARS VILLAGE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

As one of the oldest ironworks in Finland, international exchange and community engagement has always played a natural part in Fiskars Village. Today the village hosts hundreds of Artisans, Designers and Artists forming a unique, vivid community of creative professionals. Formed in 1996, the Cooperative of Artisans, Designers and Artists in Fiskars' arranges international, high-quality exhibitions, seminars, markets and events in Fiskars all year-round presenting crafts, design and art. Besides the rich art community, Fiskars today hosts numerous nationally noticed events such as the antique, wood, food, fishing and knife happening. Fiskars Village Artist in Residence´s mission is to stimulate the professional exchange and networking in between cooperative members in Fiskars Village and creative professionals overseas. The residence is open to non-Finnish professionals from all creative businesses, nationalities and ages. This includes working craftspeople, designers, visual artists, architects, industrial designers, performing artists, composers, curators, producers, journalists, writers and researchers.

The Fiskars Village AiR offers two separate, fully furnished apartments with private kitchen, bathroom and work space in a traditional, newly renovated house in the heart of Fiskars Village. The busy summer months are most suitable for independent research and social networking, while the winter season offer more time and space for creative production and participation in the cooperative's activities. It is our wish that the visitor donates an art piece or product to the AiR collection at the end of his/her residency.

A monthly maintanance fee of 150 euros is required for the two-month residency periods during April-May and September-December. June, July and August have a monthly maintanance fee of 300 euros. The visiting artist is responsable for their own travel arrangements, insurances, visas, meals, equipment and working materials.
