Fiskars Village Artist in Residence

With a vivid community of more than 120 designers, artists and craftsmen, a significant cultural heritage, rich flora, wild forests and many waters, Fiskars Village offers an exceptionally inspiring environment for creative work. The village has about 500-600 inhabitants and it is situated approximately 100 km west of Helsinki, in the municipality of Raseborg, South Finland.

The Cooperative of Artisans, Designers and Artists in Fiskars has been active from 1996 and the Fiskars Village Artist in Residence was founded in early 2006. Creative professionals overseas (i.e. non-Finnish-resident) such as craftspeople, designers, visual artists, architects, industrial designers, performing artists, composers, journalists, writers and scientists may apply for the residency.

The Fiskars Village AiR offers an apartment with work space for periods of two or three months. A monthly maintainance fee of 100 euro is required from all visiting artists over the period of residence (2 months 200e, 3 months 300e). The Fiskars Artist in Residence program does NOT offer any funding for travel, material or living expenses.

It is our wish that the resident artist presents him/herself in some way during his/her stay, in the interests of forging contacts and meeting with local professionals. This may happen through an informal presentation evening, a small workshop or a lecture. The artist is also welcome to take initiative to participate in some of the cooperative’s activities or other creative productions in the area.

Fiskars Village AiR is available year-round with the following residency periods:
