Simple Life 2008
Finnish Art
11.5. – 28.9.2008, Mon-Sun 11-18
Copper Smithy, Fiskars

New technologies have made the world in all its complexity increasingly available to us. Or are we losing ourselves in abundance? How do we recognize things that are meaningful? How to find more than we know to seek?
Only by delimiting and cropping can things of personal interest and value be found. Art is a laboratory of delimiting – a way of studying and communicating world, private or shared subcultures and phenomena. Beyond the chosen and delimited lies the undefined abundance and chaos of the world of which all simplification also tells. By limiting, art also provides an opportunity to follow the mind, eye and thinking of someone else.

Simple Life 2008 is an exhibition presenting the positions of artists regarding the phenomena of our times. They reflect, take stands, represent what our environment looks like today, and tell of different choices by individuals. It is the third of a series of extensive showings of Finnish art at Fiskars (previous exhibitions: Unique 2002, Labyrinth 2005).

The artists in the exhibition are Eeva-Kaisa Ailus, Soili Arha, Marina Ciglar, Hanne Horte, Petri Hytönen, Sade Kahra, Sandra Kantanen, Markku Keränen, Tapani Kokko, Anni Laakso, Petra Lindholm, Robert Lucander, Jukka Mäkelä, Inka Nieminen, Ron Nordström, Stefan Nyström, Sari Palosaari, Anna Retulainen, Hannu Siren, Päivi Takala, Tommi Toija, Marja-Elina Uusitupa, Ilona Valkonen and Katja Öhrnberg.
